The only thing that comes to mind today is the suffering and loss that has ravaged the small, depleted country of Haiti as a result of the strongest earthquake ever to be recorded there, which hit the island just two days ago. As one of the most impoverished countries in the western hemisphere, Haiti lies in ruin with a government completely without resources of its own to aid the tens of thousands of victims amongst the rubble.
Survivors are have gone without water and shelter, and as night is settling, aid is finally beginning to pour in. Yet, decomposing bodies lining the streets and overflowing the morgues, screams from underneath collapsed buildings, rumors of tsunamis, and looting have been a discouraging site for the already dispirited Haitians.
